What is Fiber to the Home?

Fiber to the Home is an end-to-end Fiber connection that uses a Fiber optic cable from your residence to directly connect to the Internet. Here at Horizon Fiber, we do not use any copper cables which may slow down your connection. Fiber optic cables are capable of achieving the fastest Internet speeds and are more reliable than a wireless connection.

What is an enterprise-grade connection?

Unlike typical home fiber plans, Horizon Fiber has high service reliability and minimum speeds – suitable for businesses!

Service reliability pertains to the consistency of the connection. Our home plans are rated up to 80%! This simply means we have very minimal internet interruptions and downtime.

All of our plans are 100% minimum speed – you’re guaranteed fast speeds all day long!

What is a symmetric connection?

This means you experience the same speed rate for uploading and downloading content! You can upload HD videos as fast as you can download them.

What is a Dual-Band Wifi Router?

Our WiFi routers use the latest technology and are faster and more versatile than ever. Dual-band routers send data over two different radio frequencies or “bands”: namely, the 2.4 GHz band and the 5 GHz band. You can think of this as a wireless highway.  When one gets too congested, our router automatically switches the “highway” to which your device is connected.

What are cloud backups and why is it important?

If you have cloud backups, you won’t need any USB dongles or external hard drives to secure your precious files! The best thing about them is that they are accessible anywhere and anytime! Some popular cloud storage applications are Dropbox, iCloud, OneDrive, and Google One.

What is 4k Video and why is it important?

Also known as UHD or 4K UHD, it refers to an extremely high definition for watching videos. 4K television screens have a resolution of 3840 x 2160, which is four times more pixels than an average Full HD TV!

Why are Fiber Cables better than Copper?

Fiber optic connections have a higher bandwidth and can transfer data over longer distances than conventional cables. Fiber optic cables service a large number of Internet, cable and telephone networks worldwide.

How to care for your Fiber Optic Cables

The Fiber optic cables connected to your router have a glass core which is prone to breakage. Handle with great care when moving the router and/or the cable itself and take note of the following.

  • DO NOT Bend your fiber optic cable. This can cause the core to snap inside.
  • DO NOT Strike or smash your cable. This will create tiny fractures along your fiber cable and affect your signal quality
  • DO NOT Unplug/Pull on your cable. This will cause dirt to collect at the end port and block some of the signal coming through the cable.
